Over the last 25 years geochemistry has played a crucial role in the understanding of the distribution and evaluation of petroleum source rocks allowing their occurrence to be predicted, their effectiveness and potential to be modeled and resulting petroleum generation and cracking and accumulations to be explained.
Recently, simultaneous analytical breakthroughs have established DNA and Age related molecular geochemistry analysis of rock extracts, oil, condensate and gas as the most effective tool to identify, characterize and quantify petroleum systems in terms of their origin, potential, geographical and vertical distribution and volumetric assessment. Also, petroleum geochemistry became a critical calibration tool for building reliable 3D petroleum system modeling (IES software, PETROMOD) and exploration risk assessment.
The IPEX environmental geochemistry team together with Analytical Technology have developed instrinsic operations in which the chemical, physical and biological analysis are fully integrated with geological, geographical and oceanographical data. The presence of certified analytical laboratories within IPEX further increases the capacity to control the quality of the final data.
